VHS sports update
The Valley boys had a great game with Diamond Ranch on December 20. It was a close match in the first quarter, as the Diamondbacks led Valley 18-17. At the half, it was Valley on top 32-27. Diamond Ranch came out strong in the third, outscoring the Buffaloes 22-19. But in the final period of play, the Buffaloes went on a stampede and crushed the Diamondbacks 32-17, for a final score of 83-66. Colby Spencer drained 33 points, including three three-pointers.
Dallen Esplin lit it up for 20 points, and Clint Sorensen chipped in 12.
On December 22, the Buffaloes traveled to Moqui territory for what proved to be a close battle, but in the end the Moquis claimed the victory. Valley started off slowly, only scoring three points to Escalante’s 18 in the first period. In the next quarter, the Buffaloes outscored the Moquis 18-10. The second half was close, with Valley scoring 37 points and Escalante 40. The foul shots are what made the difference in the game though, as the Moquis made 31 free throws, compared to Valley’s 13. The final score was 68-58 for Escalante.
Kobe Shatto led the Buffaloes with 16 points, Dallen Esplin added 11, and Kevin Reese also scored in double digits with 10. The Buffaloes travel to Bryce Valley on January 2 to take on the Mustangs.
The Lady Buffs faced some tough region match-ups this past week. On December 19, Valley hosted the Piute Thunderbirds. The Lady Thunderbirds controlled the game, defeating Valley 64-49. Audrey Harris had a big game for the Lady Buffs, lighting up 16 points, including four three-point shots.
On December 21, the Lady Buffs traveled to Milford. The Lady Tigers started out strong and never looked back as they claimed a 62-31 victory. Kyra Milligan led Valley with 10 points, including three three-pointers, and Jessica Wood chipped in eight. The Lady Buffs have a road game in Panguitch on January 3.
