Christmas Festival this weekend
Another year has gone by, and one of Kanab’s premier events will happen tonight and tomorrow – the annual Christmas Festival! This is not like Western Legends Round-up, which is for tourists, as well as the locals. This one is all ours!
Tonight is the dinner and concert at the decorated Kanab Middle School. Yes, it is a fundraiser for our own Symphony of the Canyons, a unique organization for such a small town. They will be playing many of the Christmas songs we love so much. There are some tickets left, and, as always, they are going fast. Enjoy a superb prime rib dinner supplied by Houston’s, or a wonderful vegetarian creation by The Mediterranean Table. The dinner and conversation is always special and memorable.
This is followed by the Symphony of the Canyons concert playing Christmas favorites. The theme: “Christmas in the Movies.”
Saturday is fun in a different way. String orchestras from all three Kanab schools, plus the Symphony’s own Young People’s Chamber Orchestra, directed by Linda Ghidossi-DeLuca, will entertain from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the exciting gymnasium event.
It’s not just them! Merilee Terry’s X-Press, the Kanab High School award-winning choir, will be singing! There will be dance groups (Kabonic and Red Rock) and singers (Julie Johnson and the Canyon Singers), too. Ms Ghidossi and Kortney Stirland, the musical director of the Symphony, will play some jazz favorites.
The musicians will be surrounded by vendors selling all kinds of special gift items that are unique and obviously not the ordinary department store stuff.
There will be free drawings and prizes all day – plus pizza, drinks and other food will be available. Santa should be here, too!
Tickets for tonight’s Dinner Concert Fundraiser are available at Zion Pharmacy or at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. for social hour, followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the concert at 7:15 p.m. or so. On Saturday, the doors open at 10 a.m. and the merriment will last until 4 p.m.
