Kanab volleyball sweeps Bryce Valley
On August 23, Bryce Valley volleyball teams came to town to play Kanab. The Cowgirl freshmen team started strong and beat the visitors easily in three quick sets, with finishing scores of 25-10, 25-9 and 15-8, giving up less points each set.
The JV team also won in three sets, 25-10, 25-23 and 15-8. Jessi Johnson led serving stats pushing 16, Arizona Gallagher pushed eight and Hannah Reidhead added seven. Gallagher led in hits with four, with Katie Glover and Shaylee McDonald right behind with three each.
The varsity team was so excited to get on the floor. They stormed the Mustangs and ran the score up to end the first set very quickly with an amazing 25-6 score. Coach Kamie Houston challenged them to work on some back row hitting and other offensive plays the next two sets. This shortened the scoring gap, but the Cowgirls still controlled the game the whole time, ending ahead 25-19. In the third set, the Cowgirls gave up too many serves, but made up for it in killer attacks and still came out with the win, 25-21.
Our seniors had a standout night and showed great leadership. They led the way on all stats. Middle blocker Kate Hoffmeister served up 12 serves, including eight in a row. Jessika Houston pushed her “bullet” serve and she and Whitni Johnson added 11 serves each. Ashleigh Cserepes and Whitni Johnson play outside hitters and led in attacks with 10 each. Hoffmeister added seven attacks from the middle. Houston set them up all night for hits, but even got three of her own. Hoffmeister led with five blocks, with Houston and Hannah Reidhead contributing two blocks each.
All in all, it was a great night for the Cowgirls! They came out ready to play and kept up high energy all night – sweeping Bryce Valley across the board. Come out and cheer for your hometown volleyball team, they are fun to watch. Kanab hosts Valley tomorrow night.
