Fredonian struggles for survival after major car accident
A rollover accident recently left two community members in critical condition. Twenty three year old Tara Wendling, Fredonia, was returning from at trip to St. George on Sunday, August 12, when she attempted to pass several vehicles near Apple Valley. As the passing lane ended, Wendling attempted to avoid oncoming traffic and lost control of the Isuzu Rodeo she was driving. The vehicle rolled several times, ejecting Wendling and her two younger brothers, Leo, 13, and Terrance (Percy), 16. Wendling’s seven month old baby, Jake, was secure in his car seat.
Tara and Leo were transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, both in critical condition. Percy and Jake were taken to Dixie Regional Hospital; both have been released and returned home.
The family does not have medical insurance as bills and expenses continue to mount. As of this report, Tara has yet to wake up. She suffered massive injuries and had a minor stroke. Leo is now awake, but will endure a long recovery.
An account has been set up at State Bank of Southern Utah for donations. There are also several fundraisers planned to help the family, including a frybread dinner at the Fredonia Park on Saturday, August 25. Donation jars have been placed around the community.
